A friend of a friend, someone I'd just met, asked what my name meant. I said: dance. My closest friends were surprised. They'd known me for years, but they'd never asked.
That's when I realized closeness doesn't guarantee curiosity.
What's already out there?
Decks like We're Not Really Strangers, TableTopics, and The Skin Deep already exist to spark deeper conversation.
But their questions are written top-down, generic prompts meant to work for anyone, with no real answer attached, just a blank the user has to fill.
The Approach
Every question in this deck came from a real person in my life, paired with their real answer, abstracted into an illustration.
A real question, already answered once, inviting you to answer it too.
Collecting the Questions
I turned to people in my life: what's a question you wish people asked you more?
I collected their questions, then paired each with their own real answer.
The Imagery
Abstracted illustrations were used instead of printing the person's actual words, protecting their privacy while still capturing the emotional shape of their answer.
